“Ritorno all Eden”

Extract of a text from an italian art critic, at Burkhardt Academy, Rome:

“L’antico anzi il comune, quello che ad ogni passo si incontra e che non si osserva,

passando oltre con estrema noncuranza, ella lo propone evincendone spirituali sembianze

di afflati intimi, scoperte e indicazioni soffusi di altissima poesia.”

“Geraldine affonda le sue radici nel suo microcosmo e ne trae quella visione intima

ed incantata che trasmette come una corrente che percorre il sapiente disegno,

fulcro della forza magnetica della sua arte. Nelle sue immagini vivono generazioni

che trasmetono rivelazioni crescenti e preziose di mondi nascosti nei quali l’umano

diventa divino, creatura attinge la creazione, la conquista e ne svela l’anima.”

“ Merito precipuo di quest’artista é quello di scoprire la luce che ogni uomo ha dentro

e con la quale l’artista illumina le proprie opere, che divengono così altre sorgenti

atte ad indicare all’uomo la strada da percorrere per ritrovare l’Eden perduto.

MUSEUM OF ARTS FOR NATURE

HOW THE IDEA STARTED:

In Norway in 1986, the idea of a festival "ARTS FOR NATURE" has been created through my initiative, possibly to become an annual event, backed up by the Milieu minister Sissel Ronbekk.

After five years of painting, writings and making exhibitions in Norway, with a loving response from the public and the press, a Norwegian called Per Haugen, offered to the Government at the northern municipality Narvick, a land and a building of his property for a possible museum of my work.

In a letter to the chief of culture of Marvin, I proposed that a museum be created there for works of art which would express and evoke a sense of wonder for the beauty of Nature in general, not only for my works. Suggestion I passed on to Norway's Artists organization, Norske Kunstneres Forening, when I left Norway.

In 1991, when starting to create a studio (Naturestudio) in Belgium,

the idea for such a museum in Europe was presented to the mayor of Gent Mr Temmerman, to Fabiola and King Boudwijn.

Then we discussed my ideas.

TREES OF LATEM

De Amerikaans-Braziliaanse kunstenares van Chapman is gegrepen door het samenspel van intimiteit en majesteit

van bomen. De dreven en bossen waarmee Sint-Martens-Latem is begiftigd nodigen haar onweerstaanbaar uit tot

een artistieke exploratie van die wondere diversiteit van de natuur.

Het levert prachtige zichten op en kleurrijke observaties van schors en stronken.

Met hun steeds wisselende schakeringen van licht en schaduw zorgen bomen voor een koepel van rust en vrede

en nemen ze ons op in het mysterie van het leven. Het werk van van Chapman straalt liefde en respect uit voor de

natuur die ons voedt en oplaadt met innerlijke kracht. Ze sluit hiermee helemaal aan bij de sensibiliteit van haar

artistieke geestesgenoot Myriam Vandenberghe.

Prejudged art dealers

Felt a suspicious look from the gallerist as I entered his gallery for the first time.

But even so I came in, telling him I had an atelier in Gent and handled him a card with my web address, in case he would like to see our art.

He told me impatiently he would not look at the website because he was interested in art.

Not in decoration.

I was curious to hear what he meant as art and I told him so.

I told him that was not my painting on the photo and asked him if he would look and give a critic of a work of mine I had on the bicycle outside in a roll. He said no. He was not interested.

So he asked me if I saw the works in his gallery. He asked me if I knew the name of the artists of each of his art works.

That sounded like Jan Hoet. It is similar to someone from the pop repertoire judging that one knows nothing about music, if one does not know the groups who played the music in his discotheque.

That was not how I see what is art.

Then I said good bye and told him that in truth he was not interested in art but in names.

The reproduction on the card I gave to the first of them had a painting of leaves in the autumn by Myriam.

Myriam is an exceptional someone who really cares for the well being and not to do harm any living being.

Her art, for those who have eyes to see, is the most deeply touching and most eloquent expression of this extraordinary sensitivity and spiritual power.

To read anything as superficial as merely decorative about this deeply moving and authentic care of all creatures, love of beauty and poetic genius of hers is to be completely spiritually blind, that is, to be presumptuous, arrogant and utterly insensitive.

The next gallery I went in was to collect some paintings of mine that were in depot.

There was another person there I did not know, and he also looked at me suspicious as I came in asking for my paintings.

After a phone call to the art dealer I had to do with, he gave me my works and I signed note about it.

I mentioned to him what the reaction was of the previous art dealer, his neighbour.

He also asked me the names of the artists of the works in his Gallery.

How can I know anything about art if I do not know what is the name of the artist in his gallery????

And said artists become famous (not because they are good artists? ) but because of the galleries.

He advised me I should have a gallery of my own.

'I also have to earn my living..' he said, helping me with the paintings to the street and blinking to me said: '-Good luck with your art. '

He did not want to see the painting I had in the bicycle.

He said he would not promise me to look at my website.
