The return of the Portrait-

Philosophic Community Project

-Part of a long dialogue with a Muslim friend who will stay anonym.

Finally, I had the money to give back to Erci. Money he had paid me for the portrait I made of him.

I invited him in the courtyard. It was a sunny day in the garden full of flowers and brought him the money and the portrait also, which I said he could have, for free, if he wanted it.

The reason I returned the money he paid for the portrait, was that he did not like the eyes in them, demanding me that I change them and I denied to change anything by command.

(I would do it if he were able to assume publicly to be the one in our dialogues but he denied that...

While we both looked at the portrait in the garden, to my surprise, he said that his eyes in the portrait were good (!?) And asked if I had worked on them. I had not, and I told him so.

How can one explain this!? Now he changed his way of seeing, after all!

For the first time since I know him, he gave me a hug, and asked me to forgive him if he had hurt me.

This was beautiful from him! I told him: - Idem. I never want to hurt you.

-But you have been angry! He said.

-Yes, because you interrupted me...

He was in a hurry. On his way out, on the street, I asked him his meaning about the condemnation to death (by Sudanese authorities) of a Muslim woman for having married a Christian man- (the Meriam Yehya Ibrahim issue I mentioned before).

-I cannot defend Muslims who are not here... he said in a low voice...

-But it is international news! I protested.

Evading the subject, he started telling about some awful torture crimes, supposedly committed by " -Buddhists or those others'.

-Real Buddhists could not do that, I tried to tell him, as he went away along the side of the street. - -That is totally against Buddha's teachings.

He kept walking and repeating from a distance: "-Be in peace, while I repeated after him out loud :

- You can understand me!

So I write him:

-What can be the peace, dear Muslim, in this 'looking the other way'?

What is the peace, in refusing, like a partial lawyer, to see any unkindness, in your client, when in him there is murder?

What is the peace, my friend, in accusing of being violent, those (Buddhists) instead, whose teachings are so much kinder, compassionate towards all beings, whose wisdom would never kill others for, nor enslave others to a belief?

Yes, you can understand me...do not deny it.

O retorno do Retrato-

.-Parte de um longo diálogo com um amigo muçulmano que permanecerá anônimo (Pseudnimo: Erci)

Finalmente pude retornar o dinheiro que Erci me pagou por seu retrato.

O dia estava ensolarado no jardim cheio de flôres. Convidei-o ao pátio entregando também o retrato, que ele o poderia ter de graça, se ele quisesse.

O motivo que lhe devolvi o dinheiro que ele havia pago pelo retrato, é que ele não gostava dos olhos, me exigindo alterá-los, o que neguei fazer por comando.

(Faria isto únicamente se ele fosse capaz de assumir publicamente ser aquele em nossos diálogos, o que ele negou assumir...

Mas, para minha surpresa, enquanto olhavamos para o seu retrato, ali no jardim, ele disse que seus olhos no retrato estavam bons (?) perguntando se eu havia trabalhado neles. Não havia, e assim o disse.

Como explicar isso !? Depois de tudo, ele mudara seu modo de ver, !

Pela primeira vez desde que eu o conheço, ele me deu um abraço, e pediu que o perdoasse, se me tivesse machucado.Isto foi lindo da parte dele!

E respondi: - Idem. Tambem nunca quiz te machucar.

-Mas você as vezez ficava com raiva! Disse ele.

-Sim, porque você me interrompera ... Ele estava com pressa de partir. No caminho, na rua, fiz-lhe uma pergunta; -O que tinha a dizer sobre a condenação à morte de uma mulher muçulmana (pelas autoridades Sudanesas) por ter casado com um homem-cristão (a questão sobre Meriam Yehya Ibrahim que mencionara antes).

-Não posso defender os Muçulmanos que não estão aqui presentes ... disse ele em voz baixa ...

-Mas isso é uma notícia internacional! Protestei.

Fugindo do assunto, ele começou a mencionar crimes de tortura terríveis, supostamente cometidos por "-Budistas ou aqueles outros".

Verdadeiros Budistas jamais fariam isso, tentei explicar, enquanto ele se distanciava ao longo da rua. - Isso é totalmente contra os ensinamentos de Buda!

Ele continuou andando e repetindo à distância: "-Fique em paz, enquanto eu tambem repetia em voz alta: - Você pode me entender!

Então escrevo para ele:

-Qual é a paz, querido muçulmano, em se 'olhar para o outro lado "?

Qual é a paz, em se recusar, qual parcial advogado, de ver qualquer indelicadeza em seu cliente, quando dentro dele se encontra um assassínio?

O que é a paz, meu amigo, em se acusar de violencia, aqueles (Budistas) cujos ensinamentos, ao contrário, são muito mais amáveis, compassivos para com todos os seres, cuja sabedoria nunca mataria nem escravizar os outros por causa de uma crença?

Sim, você me pode entender ... e não o negue!.
